Sundays

It seems that i always unintentionally post on Sundays! It's always the calm before the storm, the one day week i often have to myself. I've had a pretty interesting and peaceful weekend, and woke up this morning feeling content and optimistic about almost everything.

So I've compiled a few photos and general life advice to hopefully make everyone else feel as good as i do today!

this is a happy dolphin, who is just happy to be a dolphin.

cat's tongues feel like sandpaper, be thankful yours doesn't.

like money, or people. depend on yourself.

don't be a pushover.

don't care what insignificant people think. "those that matter don't mind, and those that mind don't matter."

if you don't drink coffee. start.
Happy Sunday!

Neon Feel

So we all know lumo clothing is OUT, big time. But making a comeback is it's stylish counterpart neon accessories, and no i'm not talking about those glow in the dark trucker caps, or stickers you put on your face at a trance party. The neon that has made a comeback is all about minimalism, accents and very clean lines with architectural tendencies. Pair this neon trend with perspex, clear or otherwise and you have the look of the season.

5 for change

I have not posted in over 6 months! I'm sorry i've been away, but i'm going to try and post more often, hopefully things are more interesting in my life now, to re-start things with a bang, the 5 for Change Event.

The 5 for Change organisation held it's second annual back tie charity gala at the Cape Town City hall on Saturday the 18th May 2013. The swanky event was full of people dressed to the nines, most inspired by The Great Gatsby and it's recent re-release. Boys in tux's and girls in gowns partied the night away with champers, canapes and tunes delivered by The Rudimentals and Goldfish. There were auctions and treasure hunts and all of it for a good cause, all money donated and raised was given to the five different charaties that were being supported that night, hence five for change.

So how many you ask, did i score an invite to this luscious event? Well i spent the first two hours of it working there scanning tickets of guests on arrival with my beautiful best friend and partner in crime, the two hours 'work' gave us a chance  to see everyone's outfits (very enjoyable as fashion design students) and scout out the eye candy for the night. Not only did we score entry to the event, and free drinks for the night, but we got plus ones as well. Our dashing duo showed up looking dapper as ever, and we took to their arms like moths to a flame. Once we settled in, there was no stopping us from partying the night away, with a few breaks in between! The night went by in a momentous blur of music sounds and colour, if i could relive it i would do so in a heartbeat.

WHO AM I? PART2

For this project i made an owl hat or headdress. From black velvet and red felt.

Throughout time owls have symbolized intellectual wisdom and the wisdom of the soul, because of their nocturnal ways they have always been associated with mystery, the moon's cycles also associate it with the feminine figure and fertility. Before the Greeks gave their pantheon human forms, the owl was the symbol of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and strategy. No matter the origin owls all over the world will continue to be symbols of wisdom, spirituality and intellectualism.

I feel that this owl hat is a reflection of myself, as not only do I have a love for owls but also attach a certain  ideology to them. The owl symbolism reminds me a lot of my parents, the spirituality and morality are my mom, she has always been the level-head, teaching me morals that i strive to keep for life, she has also embedded in me a certain spirituality which i believe is enough to keep me grounded. My father is the wisdom and intellectualism, he has always been the smartest person i know, and has passed his love for reading and the desire to know more onto me, his unbiased advice has help me make decisions that have affected my future in such positive ways.

I feel that these things have shaped who i am, I've learned you can't deny your family, and as much as you might not agree with most of their ways, there are always things that have made you the way you are. In my personal experience these things are my parents, without them, or with different parents i feel i would not be the same person. I'm a level head, someone who thinks things through before i do anything, i have my own strong belief system and will voice an opinion if i feel the need. I pride myself on my knowledge in certain areas as well as the ability to teach myself things.

WHO AM I? -part1

for this project i plan to make a headdress, with an owl an inspiration. My reasoning behind this will be explained in my final essay for the project probably in the next post. For now here are some pictures i found to be extremely inspirational.

this image in particular is very special to me. more about it later.
