The Golden Globes 2014

The Golden Globes kicked off the start of awards season for Hollywood and the stars came out dressed up in a multitude of choices, from excellently executed elegance to outfits that warrant the prompt dismal of stylists.

Figure hugging, flesh tones, golden sparkles and flashes of skin are just some words describing some of the best trends seen on the red carpet of the Globes 2014. Black and gold combinations were a popular choice of the night with stars like Kelly Osbourne in Escada, Lizzy Caplan in Emilio Pucci and Julianna Margulies in Andrew Gn, all standing out for their strong looks.
Zooey Deschanel  made many a 'best dressed' list with a beige ensemble by Oscar De La Renta, her tulle skirt and textured top set the tone for many of the other soft fairy-like dresses seen that night. Good attempts were made by Sarah Paulson in Marchesa and Taissa Farmiga in Elie Saab.
Newcomer and bombshell Margot Robbi made a statement in white Gucci with a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit. Rashida Jones also wore a slitted white dress with a more playful twist of golden beaded palm trees by Fausto Puglisi.

Host Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney, Emma Roberts in Lanvin and Sofia Vergara in Zac Posen all went with the safe option of all black, and all succeeded thoroughly in looking beautiful and poised. Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad and Mila Kunis  in Gucci went in the opposite direction both with sparkling silver and grey dresses standing out in the crowd.

Stars that didn't get the dress code quite right include Julia Roberts in a shirt dress by Dolce and Gabbana, Paula Patton in an over the top ruffled Stephanie Rolland, and other half of the comedy duo host team Tina Fey in a flamingo printed Carolina Herrera.
With the scale of outfits ranging from glorious to atrocious, awards season has started with a bang and only promises more beautiful gowns and misfit misfires only seen on the a-list we so adore.

X.
